Pre Employment Physical Examinations, or also know as Post Offer Physical Exams are done to determine if an applicant is physically capable of meeting the essential functions of the job, while maintaining the examinee’s privacy and medical confidentiality. A well designed post offer physical exam program results in fewer injuries, lower costs and a better match of employees to their jobs.

DOT Physical Exams, also know as DOT Medical Exam or DMV Physical Examination are required to be passed by all drivers (interstate or intrastate) every 2 years (or more frequently if required per personal medical conditions) by the federal government and conducted by a licensed healthcare professional prior to operating a commercial vehicle. Upon successful completion of DMV Medical Exam, Medical Examination Report form DL 51 and green card are issued on the spot to the driver or sent to the employer for review and further submission to DMV.

Fitness for duty examinations or medical evaluations determine the ability of a worker to return to duty or their fitness for duty. Many times employees’ personal physicians may release a patient back to work without understanding the full scope of an employee’s job and their potential risk of injury.  We can evaluate if the employee is fully able to do their job or if any restrictions may be indicated to protect the employee and employer.

HazMat (Hazard Materials) Physical Examination or ERT Exam (Emergency Response Team) is required by OSHA standards at the work places, where exposure to hazardous chemicals or other materials may cause a variety of health problems: skin and mucous membrane irritation; reproductive problems; bone marrow changes with altered blood cell production; impaired liver and/or kidney function; and changes in the neurological, respiratory, and cardiovascular systems. Workers who routinely handle hazardous waste for disposal, have exposures to bloodborne pathogens, and/or assist in clean up of chemical spills must be screened on a regular basis.

A Respiratory Exam is required by OSHA for an employee who's job duties require him or her to wear a respiratory device from time to time to protect the lungs from exposure to chemicals or particulate matter. In order to safely use a respiratory device, employees need to complete an OSHA respirator questionnaire which a medical provider must review. Respiratory questionnaires are reviewed by an occupational provider and the provider may request pulmonary function testing to measure lung capacity and airflow and/or a basic physical examination as well. If the exam is required due to medical concerns, the employee will be evaluated for cardiac or pulmonary disease that might place them at risk if breathing was restricted while using that device.

Following the exam, recommendations can be made for your employees as to the type of respiratory device that can be used, as well as the duration and physical work performed while wearing that device.

The clearance letter, signed by the physician, is then made available to the employer in compliance with the OSHA Respiratory Protection Standard.

Travel medicine’s purpose is to keep the traveler free from illness or accident.  Most physicians are not aware of specific travel-related issues, don't stock specialized vaccines (such as yellow fever and Typhoid), and are unfamiliar with tropical diseases.  Pre-travel consultations can be complex; our staff is familiar with these complex issues.  Additionally, under the International Health Regulations, certain international travelers must have proof of vaccination, requiring a properly signed and validated International Certificate of Vaccination.  Factors affecting the risk of illness while traveling are: the country or region the traveler is going tom if the region is rural or urban, the trip duration, use of malaria prophylaxis, past vaccinations, personal risk-taking behavior, and personal health status.
